Starting your own hospitality business in Spain

You can, of course, start your own hospitality company in Spain, but you can also choose to take over a hospitality company. On this page you will find various tips for taking over businesses in Spain and information about taking over a Catering Establishment.

Starting up your own hospitality business is of course very challenging to do, but there are also certainly many risks involved. If, for example, you want to start a restaurant in Spain, a lot of permits have to be applied for, just like in the Netherlands. Due to the high level of bureaucracy, some processes, such as applying for a permit, can sometimes take a very long time. Because the paperwork is all written in Spanish and often refers to certain articles of law (in Spanish), some people find it more pleasant to hire a consultant. Just as in the Netherlands, it can happen that applications are rejected, so that the space that you had converted into a restaurant, for example, unfortunately does not get an opening licence or that a discotheque does not get a music licence, and so on. To avoid these kinds of problems, you can choose to take over an existing hospitality company in Spain. Incidentally, this does not mean that there are no further risks involved, but your advisor is a buying agent who can find out that no known cat in the bag has been bought.
